In all of the dictionaries and encyclopedias around the world there is not a single accurately description of what makes a strong woman. However, you can refer to literature and even history itself to find such women.
They are the one that have fought for their country, given their lives to be the first woman to fly a plane, given up everything for the right to vote, or even those that have experienced incredible traumas in their life only to come on the reigning champion.
But how do you define a truly strong woman?
That is not just those historical characters or even fictional ones, but it is the everyday woman.
Whether it is the one who cleans rooms and makes the beds at hotels but does not have a bed of her own to sleep at night, or the one who babysits but does not get to see her own kids, or even when you see a woman on the street that seems like she cried the whole previous night but still has the strength to smile at you, even though you are a complete stranger.
Is she supposed to be bold or meek, altruistic or self-reliant, caring and patient or gutsy, feminine or not be defined by her gender alone?
Upon hearing the term “strong woman”, different images pop up in every single persons head, but strength does not have to be a picture of a muscular woman in a sports bra, but it can be those women with strong personalities and intelligent minds.
So, here are 8 characteristics some of you strong ladies may relate to.
They Don’t Hide Their Past
Strong women do not run away and hide from their past no matter how difficult it might have been. What’s more is that they do not hesitate to talk or be honest about it.
On the contrary, they feel like you cannot go through life without making a few mistakes along the way, so they know how to admit and learn from them instead of pushing them away, blaming others or being ashamed of them.
Without letting the past victimize them, they choose to be transparent about what they have been through and are willing to share it with other in hopes of helping them get through their problems easier.
They Are Not Afraid Of Being Rejected
For most people, being rejected can be the ultimate loss or failure, but not for a strong woman. She does not let rejection steer her away from her goals or her committed path.
In fact, she will use this as a stepping stone so she can become better. Or, she sees it as an option in a sea of opportunities, chances and choices.
She is sensible enough to understand that life is not just a straight road. In retrospect, she knows that even the straightest road has a few bumps along the way, but it still will not stop her from reaching its end. She knows that she has to endure through those bumps and keep going confidently.
They Really Don’t Trust Easily
Strong women have been through enough and know better than to trust everyone that approaches them with seemingly good intentions. With that wisdom in their mind and experience they have acquired, they take their own time to trust people, see if they are being genuine, honest and truly mean well.
This, in fact, is a fantastic trait that keeps them away from a lot of unnecessary drama, trouble and keeps them from wasting their valuable time, emotions, money and energy on the wrong people.
They Are Creative Souls
Always trying to keep it innovative and original, not wanting to do the same thing twice or trying to give the old stuff a fun and unique twist, a strong woman places a lot of her devotion towards her inborn creativity and imagination.
She is constantly looking out for new opportunities and little elements that would help her to improve herself and the environment around her.
This is due to the fact that she believes that when people discover new things and creations of the world, they would share them with others, just as she is sharing everything she finds.
They Set Great Examples for Others
Strong women are basically strong willed, maybe sometimes even stubborn ranging from reasonable to uncontrollable. But more than anything, their tenacious nature is what makes great things a reality and makes these women truly a role models to look up to.
Apart from setting an example for others to follow, they are not the types of people to boss people around, force them and utter arrogant words such as “Do as I say” or “Listen to what I have to say”.
Instead, what they do is inspire other by doing what they think is right and others usually end up following based on their own personal conscience and positive attitudes. Without even hoping for it or realizing it, they constantly impress and inspire people around them.
They Know How to Ask For Help
Although asking for help is often seen as a weakness, it is in fact a strength, which a strong woman wears like a heart on her sleeve. Although she believes she can do everything herself, she knows that there are some things she cannot do alone.
Her greatest strength is realizing that she is also a flawed human being and known perfectly well what her weaknesses are. Being well aware of the areas that are unknown to her, it is at this time that she asks for help.
It is that simple. “Strong” does not mean that she has to do everything alone, it also means knowing when to let people in and showing those around that you need them, so that they can feel important to you too.
They Hold Other Women Up, Not Bring Them Down
In all honesty, girls got to stick together, and that attitude is one of the best traits that a strong woman possesses.
Women empowerment does not happen if women are unwilling to get along, look past the flaws, and truly be there for their fellow ladies, without judgment, feeling threatened, or showing pettiness.
A woman becomes much more powerful the moment she realizes that her own value and worth does not depend on bringing down other women or competing with them.
They Take Care of Their Health and Looks
A strong woman lover her mind and body, for all of it imperfections, quirks and annoying qualities too. She knows that to maintain and support her bold and amazing attitude, she needs to have a strong body and take good care of herself. She does what she can and keeps herself healthy and fit too.
This includes eating well, having a healthy and balanced diet, regular exercises and also taking care of her looks without shying away from showing her true self and face to the world.
However, is this all there is of what makes a strong woman? There is not really a set checklist or criteria for such a character or personality.
That is why, ladies, remember that no matter who you are or what you have done, you are strong in your own beautiful way.
